The role of the altar server is to assist the priest and / or deacon during Mass on Sundays or other important days in the life of the Church. It also means helping with the setup and preparations immediately before Mass and staying briefly to assist with an cleanup or tasks afterwards.

1 – Aide in the “flow” of Mass.

2 – Showing proper reverence, which also helps to remind everyone in church that the Mass is sacred and important.

3 – Being prayerful, confidently speaking the responses and singing the songs, which sets an example for how everyone should participate in Mass.

Requirements include:

Being able to focus on the Mass, follow directions and be comfortable handling objects as well as certain movements and postures.

Must have received the sacrament of First Holy Communion (Typically grades 3-12).
