Extraordinary Ministers of Communion are called upon to carry out the following functions in the Church:
1- To Assist with the distribution of Holy Communion at Mass.
2-To assist with the distribution of Holy Communion to those who are sick, homebound, those in nursing homes, hospitals or prisons when ordained clergy are not available.
3.-May expose and repose the Blessed Sacrament for Eucharistic Adoration with the explicit permission of the pastor.
Basic Requirements
Being invited by the pastor or have the recommendation of the pastor to serve in this ministry.
Be at least 18 years of age to serve in parish.
Candidates must be a fully initiated Catholic in good standing.
Must be a registered and active member.
He or she must be in valid marriage.
He or she must be led according to the values and morals of the Church.
Some of the Spiritual attributes needed or be willing to develop include, humility, radical hospitality, gratitude, and reverence. An important part of living out this sacramental life is taking advantage of the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Going to confession is a great way of keeping us centered in God that results in a spirit of humility, gratitude and respect for others.
Remember, serving as an Extraordinary Minister of Communion is not simply about fulfilling a function on Sunday morning but sharing the very life of the Body of Christ!
