Ash Wednesday and St. Valentine’s Day
FEBRUARY 14th
Ash Wednesday and Valentine’s Day share the same day, last happening in 1945. This is a day when we begin to celebrate our love for Christ and the sacrifice he made out of love for us. In every relationship there are times when we need to say “I’m sorry” and that apology leads to conversation which leads to a deeper and more profound love. The love that God shares with us is eternal and unconditional; however, our response to that love has not been without injury.
“If we say, ‘We are without sin,’ we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we acknowledge our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive our sins and cleanse us from every wrongdoing. If we say, ‘We have not sinned,’ we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.” (1 John 1:8-10)
In light of St. Valentine we celebrate that love which we share. Love can be shown in simple ways (flowers, love notes, a kiss or embrace). Most beautifully love can be shown in more powerful ways (prayer, sacrifice, forgiveness). This is a day of fast, abstinence, and prayer. Come and celebrate the great Love, who is God, with the one’s you love.
